A senior meteorologist explained that there is a critical time after snow first falls on untreated roads during which drivers are unaware that the road surfaces have become unsafe. When drivers maintain their normal speeds under such conditions, a wreck or skid can occur.
Some New York residents may have heard that four Secret Service agents were injured in a car accident on Dec. 29, 2015. The accident occurred when a car crossed double yellow lines and then hit a car going in the opposite direction that the agents were traveling in.
